Great read by @hodlbod. Good to note that technology is never neutral πŸ‘‡ "When evaluating the use of a given tool, we have to keep in mind not the instrumental use of the tool to achive certain ends only, but also the formal way in which that tool - in combination with every other relevant tool or intention - formally shapes us. The ultimate end of a given tool is not the achievement of a particular task, but the modification of the technological environment in which we exist, and which inevitably affects our ability to understand the world, act in it, and assign value. The adoption of a certain type of tool therefore always creates a certain type of person as a result. This relationship is not always straightforward, and so can be hard to see. But it should be obvious that modern technology has had its part in creating modern man - a materialist, who cares only about quantifiable goods, who is unable to discern the value of good work done well, and who is unable to preserve traditional values and beliefs." Wow. Great read! It feels like I was trying to describe the "second realm" in my last chapter but I didn't have the complete picture to explain the overall concept. This essay captures it perfectly! Well done @Hajisatoshi! View article β†’

Really wish these folks would be on Nostr. They're thinking in the right direction but just need to embrace open source software. A digital silk road won't be built by building the same closed apps that we're trying to break free from. Need a permissionless and uncensorable base layer for digital hijra that can readily interface with anti-Riba money image

"Why Medina Eco village? "...One response to this situation is to see to what extent we can separate from the system and become as autonomous and independent as possible. It is certainly possible to become self- sufficient in food, energy, and housing; many people are doing this. Once a community reaches a certain size, it becomes possible to provide education and healthcare. Once there is a network of such small communities, it becomes possible to have our own money too. What is lacking in many attempts to do this, is an understanding of leadership and authority. As Muslims, we also have that recipe: the example of the first three generations in Madina"

"It is not enough to simply re-interpret mercantilism or to protect dead traditions, one must also build new institutions, new practices, new etiquette, new life itself. One must compete, and have the confidence, wherewithal, and belief that the Divine does not constrain activity, but liberates it. The goal is to free essence from form, to have the imagination to determine forms capable of encapsulating and manifesting the Divine, and ultimately the courage and impulse to animate, breathe life into and will them into existence in the Name of the Most High." image
