To become compatible with the (fiat) financial markets, a lot of people are willing to give up backward compatibility with existing books, online articles, courses, and written software.

Looks like I finally found the best web host after decades. It's - anonymous (they don't know who you are, if you don't tell them), - fast automation and support - doesn't use Big Tech (like Cloudflare, AWS, or Google Cloud), - affordable, and you can pay with Bitcoin (via BTCPay Server).

Exactly, a first-world problem completely disconnected from reality, for some spoiled rich brats. Ever stopped to think that for a lot of people around the world, Bitcoin just means finally having access to money in the first place? They’re nowhere near saving, growing wealth, or dreaming of a better life. They’re still stuck trying to survive. But most of you just keep hOdLiNg and never spend or donate. And then go ahead and convince yourself you're a real Bitcoiner entitled to join the discussion. View quoted note →

I gotta say, setting up your own sales booth on @Plebeian Market is actually pretty quick and easy. Really nice.

They're all moving to Substack now. People we'd actually love to have around here, because of their great content, are all heading over to Substack. And honestly, that's where the better content is showing up these days. My rarely used RSS reader is happy about it. This is what you get for being stingy with zaps. This is what you get for pushing so-called “personalities” who only throw around shallow slogans. This is what you get for being intellectually limited. Cult-like behavior. Screw decentralizing content if it doesn't even let you delete or edit stuff. If it doesn’t give you real control over your own content. If it tries to preserve every damn “GM” forever. First, make some good content, then we’ll talk. Content is still king. Data hygiene still matters. Go ahead, come at me. You won’t win anything by doing so. You’ll just prove my point.

"Bismark in the 1880s created compulsory insurance for accident, health, disability, and age (pensions). He called them “state socialism” and explained that all measures were socialist, and the state had to adapt to a little more socialism. What he wanted was to make the workers more dependent on the state and on him, that is, to have a dependent population under the ideology of national collectivism. The idea was that it would generate dependence and loyalty, which the German government needed to dominate Europe." That's awesome! Outsource it. Having your own UI for that is a good start. Best to make your own NIP for it. And dedicated GM relays. And give us a NIP filter in the clients. Perfect. View quoted note →

Justin Welsh has a pretty interesting, regular newsletter, and this time he wrote about a subtle shift in people's mindset regarding social media. People are fed up with everything. The algorithms are annoying, the AI engagement is frustrating, and the constant outrage is exhausting. And by now, everyone has realized that relying on legacy social media is too risky for their business, so they’re exploring other options. What those options are remains vague, and there’s no mention of Nostr. I also don’t think Nostr is the solution to social media fatigue. There’s a lot of annoyance and stress there too. It seems like humanity is looking for something completely different. We’re in a transitional phase. It could be that we’re not 'too early' with Nostr, but rather that we might be too late in copying the UI of other legacy services. And I've been saying it for years: this timeline-based format is terrible. It really don't like it.

After Stripe had already caused issues with the very first payment to my business account, PayPal has now followed suit, also blocking the first incoming payment and demanding extra documents. So my client and I immediately switched to Bitcoin and handled it permissionlessly. Not long after, I shut down my PayPal account. For the cancellation reason (inspired by my client's email), I wrote: "Far too invasive for a payment provider. Thanks for helping speed up Bitcoin adoption with your practices!" From this point on, I accept international payments exclusively in Bitcoin or, in rare cases, via direct SEPA bank transfer maybe with Bitwage in between for clients in Europe.
