The World Cup has lost its appeal for me.
I like football. Sometimes I'm interested in club football and in some phases less so. But the World Cup was always a big deal for me ever since I was eleven. I also liked the last World Cup in Qatar but the shit that is going on at this US World Cup is pure absolute crap.
1. I'm no fan of the German national team but I think the last goal of Jonathan Tah for the 2:1 was completely valid.
2. I'm no fan of the Croats either but that last goal I still haven't figured out what happened there. Something about a sensor chip in the ball and it somehow did not count? What the hell is that crap? Everyone could see it was a clean goal. Since when does this kind of manipulable tech get to decide things? I take Luka Modric for a totally honest guy deep down. He is a world footballer and he never gets mixed up in any drama. When he complains people should listen. Other former world footballers complained too.
3. Egypt vs Argentina. The 3:0 does not count because on the other end of the pitch there was a foul a minute earlier? And the referee only notices that after the third goal already went in? Why could he not whistle that earlier? Where was the VAR? Sketchy as hell. Mohammad Salah will cry sometimes when he loses fair and square but he just kept smiling the whole time. Smiling with contempt. Like he already knew exactly what was going on.
4. And then that infamous Trump card which for the first time ever in football history cancelled the minimum ban of one game for a red card. I mean what the fuck? They should have shut the whole tournament down right there. Over. Finished. No more World Cup in 2026.
And FIFA comes up with some bullshit excuse about discretionary room that exists somehow in the rules. Pure bullshit. FIFA has room to maneuver when a player gets hit with a 5 game ban for a serious foul and the team lawyer talks it down to 3 games. But for the minimum ban there is nothing left to negotiate down. UEFA, the DFB everyone the entire world was saying: WTF.
Not that it even helped the USA. I figure a 4:1 gap is beyond anything they can still fix with shady stuff.
5. And the games themselves. Boring as hell. Nothing new, no fresh tricks, no entertainment. We've seen all of this before. Even the players look like they have zero fire like they already know the script.
And people say there are even more clues like for example that 15 fouls by Argentina in one game never got whistled. And quite a bit more. But the points 1-3 that I already listed by themselves are enough to cancel the whole tournament. But people have invested and now they want to make money that much is obvious.
The World Cup has lost its appeal for me.
I only sort of watch the rest of the games on the side while I work just to check if the conspiracy crowd turns out right and the win of Argentina which they would never manage without their wonder boy football autist was already locked in from the start. But like I said the joy for this World Cup is already gone.
