Our sense of security seems tied to it. We’re told to earn it, save it, and chase it. Yet no one ever really teaches us what money actually is. Why can a number, a piece of paper, or now just a digital record represent value? How can today’s labor be stored and exchanged for future rewards? Even more strangely, almost no one asks this question. Since the Industrial Revolution, society has needed punctual, obedient workers. Education trained us to follow instructions, not to question the system. In many ways, modern money functions as a subtle control mechanism—through wages, debt, and rising living costs. We’re not foolish. We were simply never encouraged to understand money’s true nature. So let’s step back and ask: if humans want to cooperate and exchange value, what kind of intermediary do we really need?
