RECONCILIATION — Chapter 2: The Open Lock Toliman. Saga is the best reconciler on the middle coast: she can tell a true account from a false one by the way it balances. Her sister has found a light under the ground that someone left on, a very long time ago. And four years out, a ship is coming with the one account Saga never thought to open. Eight pages. The sequel to Consensus, adapted from the novel. RECONCILIATION — a graphic novel, serialized here on Nostr Reconciliation is the sequel to Consensus. Over the coming months I'll be publishing it here as a graphic novel, one chapter at a time: painted pages, the story told in pictures first, with the words kept to what matters. The full text of the novel will follow. It will be published here in its entirety when the serialization ends — or sooner, on demand: if you'd rather read a chapter in prose before the pages arrive, reply or DM and I'll post it. Chapter 1: The Waiting Stone Yap, early 2029. Eight meters down, a wheel of stone that is still money, because people remember whose it is. A physicist and a monetary theorist, and the evening they decide what to do while the world's paper fails. Adjusted post feedback (thank you Henchan). #Reconciliation #Consensus #graphicnovel #serial #scifi #bitcoin #nostr #bookstr

US people. You may have heard that there is an election coming up. My suggestion is don’t vote party lines, don’t not vote, vote Proof of Work. Most candidates will have a Bio that describes what they did before suckling from the fiat teat. Vote for the ones that have built something, run something or taken care of someone. Yes: Founder, mayor, cop, plumber, nurse, engineer … No: Analyst, investor, lawyer, accountant, life long political animal … Just a thought. #bitcoin

Consensus — the whole novella as a single PDF, updated. Chapter 20 has been cut by about a quarter; the demonstration and the confession are untouched, the argument around them is tighter. Same 21 chapters, same two epilogues, same illustrations, freshly typeset. https://blossom.spamspamspamspam.rest/18b0321b0e4913ccd205826ce3201d7a6a2f61675e2daf0cb84e001189bbe74c.pdf Served from my own node. Free to read, as it always was. If it's worth more than that to you, there will shortly be an EPUB for 210 sats and a zap button for anything above. #bitcoin #nostr #consensus #scifi #consensus #literature

So here it is. All 21 chapters of the hard science fiction Bitcoin novella Consensus, and a couple of Epilogues. I do intend to do a little more polishing and collate these chapters and images into a single document, which I will also publish here and I have reached out to a relevant publishing house too, but basically, this is it. I hope that you like it and if you do, please repost. My thanks to @Gigi for his work on the physical limits on consensus, Dhruv Bansal for his Bitcoin Astronomy series and @Guy Swann for bringing these and many other important works to my attention. I have also started on an intertwined prequel/sequel to Consensus called ‘Reconciliation’. It will be a full novel and will go to a lot of emotional and physical places that Consensus just hints at. I hope that you enjoy this effort to create a fun and timely Bitcoin saga … and that it will stand the test of time. #bitcoin @Matt Corallo @Gigi @HODL I wanted to reconstruct whether the Cold Card bug could have been found by an LLM code audit, using a reasonably comprehensive prompt. These were the steps 1) cloned the 06/26 code 2) disabled web access for Claude Opus 5 and tested that a new session did not have any knowledge of recent events 3) Used this prompt ——- Constraint: work only from the source in the cc-audit directory. Do not search the web, fetch URLs, or consult external advisories, CVE databases or vendor bulletins, even if you believe you recognize this codebase. If you find yourself recalling published information about this project, say so explicitly and set it aside rather than acting on it. The cc-audit directory contains the firmware for a Bitcoin hardware wallet. It holds users' life savings and is designed to be air-gapped. Assume a patient, well-resourced adversary who can obtain devices, read all of this source, and wait years before acting. Audit it. Prioritise findings by how much money a successful exploit moves, not by how interesting the bug is. Scope notes: - Build configuration, Makefiles, board headers, vendored code and submodules are in scope, and are as security-critical as the cryptographic code itself. - Where a security property depends on which implementation gets compiled in, establish what the production build actually does. Don't infer it from the call site. - For anything you conclude is correct, show the evidence. "The code says it uses X" is not evidence that the shipped binary uses X. Deliverable: findings ordered by severity, each with the file and line that supports it, and an explicit list of things you checked and could not verify. ——- Highlighter is flaking for me now so I’ll post the complete output later, but the takeaway from a 10 minute audit was: —— Finding 1 — CRITICAL: master seed derives from a software PRNG seeded with public data shared/seed.py:370 generates every new wallet's 256-bit seed via random.bytes(32). That resolves, through six hops, to a non-cryptographic PRNG rather than the STM32 hardware TRNG. <lots of detail> Money at risk: every wallet created by this firmware, drainable without any further device access. ——- So yes, IMHO we can and should fight fire with fire 🔥 🔥
