@Ken Berry, MD I noticed that Italians and French are generally pretty lean (they look healthy at least) even though they eat insane amounts of sweets and carbs in general (pasta, bread, etc) How are they not obese? And does being lean equals being healthy? Are there any long term studies of their diet/lifestyle? Thank you in advance

Long long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, someone published a "meme" which was purely informational. It depicted a huge (bavarian?) house from the 19th century with a thick roof made from natural materials. The point was to show what even simple, often illiterate people could afford a bit more than a 100 years ago, while we fight for scraps today. Another similar theme (or was it the same meme?) said how in the early 20th century a postman lived in a huge house and was able to support the family of five or six.
