For as long as many Bitcoiners can remember, self-custody has been the ideal: hold your own keys, and no company can freeze or seize your money. But it puts every risk on you. One lost seed phrase, and it's gone for good. There's a third option, between doing it all yourself and trusting an exchange, where no single person or outside company can access or control your bitcoin. It's called community custody.
