Having had plenty of compulsory free time this week, I’m finally almost finished with the “Bitcoin Standard”.
Besides the whole economical aspect of the origin of money as such, how it evolved, how it went from physical tokens to a gold standard to government currencies, and how Bitcoin checks the boxes as sound money, what is making me more and more thoughtful is the awareness of how unsound economies with high time preference are backed by a whole system of production, beliefs, media etc that is based on superfluous stuff sold as must-haves. The FOMO is the fuel keeping this structure spinning around consumption that supposedly keeps economies “thriving” while people see less and less value back for the lifetime they spend in the workforce, because the printing never ends.
A very eye-opening reading, indeed. 🧠🤯 Adopting a sound money involves much more than just investing in Bitcoin, but rather requires rethinking and approaching many other habits and life decisions more carefully in general.
