I am also very curious.. but why moving only 500? Could be a brute force so they need time for the others? But why then making it public before having them?
Maybe is a bluff to create FUD about self custody and the 500 sized happened because they found the actual paper or similar or it is a specific case not applicable to other situations.

If brute force is now possible then it’s basically over. I expect FUD angle as it’s the EU and he just told them where a key was to get some time off his sentence.
Its defo strange.
Great point about only 1 wallet.
Peculiar.
I wouldn't necessarily assume it was the authorities who chose to make this public. Clearly, these coins are in the public interest, and anyone could have set up to be automatically notified once any of them moved ;then subsequently asked the authorities about it - forcing their hand.
The truth is we have no idea how good (bad) this pot grower's opsec actually was.
Maybe they just happened to 'find' the key(s).
Maybe his keys were also in an encrypted file with a weak, breakable password.
Maybe he used weak entropy for key generation; and they finally managed to brute-force one of them.
Or, maybe the authorities have secretly discovered the secret to quantum computing 🤣
Fair take.. the end made me laugh ahahah
