That is such a destructive thing to do. If you give a shit about the republic, which most Americans do (I'm over it at this point), doing this is one more step away from some semblance of legitimacy of the state. Its really grimy and i feel like I need a shower when I watch that video. He's promising to devalue peoples money (5k per citizen is almost 2 trillion) and give a little back to them to retain power. They did this in covid and now look at prices. Such a disgusting game being played.

A terrible thing to promise and it would be worse to actually follow through.

I think once you make a promise like that, to those of us using our minds to try to understand the world (and not picking a crafted narrative to identify with like a lot of people do) we can't see you as legitimate anymore. To the rest, either way its so bad. If you promise then dont deliver, you break their view of legitimacy, if you do deliver you devalue their currency. Either way, really destructive. Of course they're counting on either blaming their opponents for blocking it, or blaming their opponents for the price inflation that will follow if they do it. And all that would do is increase the infighting for a cheap political win, that doesnt really gain anything but 2 more years of publicly lamenting that the other side is worse. I really hope someone somewhere has a plan to fix some shit, all I see is everyone in the know looting the ship as it sinks. I'm not a fan of the stare, but I understand that any change in status quo costs lives, I'm really really hoping there's someone somewhere in power that is working towards salvaging what there is for the people.
