I just encountered a square merchant that accepted bitcoin even though they didn’t know they did. There was a toggle on the pay screen to let me choose to pay with bitcoin. I paid with my cash balance on @npub1cash...dg5l and there was no 0.9% fee. I also got 5% bitcoin back on the purchase. πŸš€ image

just noticed that cash app now adds a 0.9% fee when paying lightning invoices using your cash balance πŸ™. guess they had to cover the loophole of people paying their own lightning invoices and stacking sats with no fees. View quoted note β†’

I just noticed that the Bitcoin symbol had one line instead of two, hopefully indicating that those are sats, not full BTCs. Is that becoming a new standard?

no 0.9% fee? Interesting. Makes perfect sense, though, to waive that fee when you're just paying one of their other clients via square (they likely aren't even actually converting to BTC since they can just adjust the custodied balances on each side of the transaction). *I'm going to assume someone of authority there is aware of that toggle... just not the minimum wage employee running the cash register at the time. πŸ˜‰

... which raises the possibility that the 0.9% fee might still apply if the merchant happened to choose to keep btc rather than auto-convert btc to dollars. πŸ€”

true. the fee structures have been changing so often that it's difficult to keep track of what they're paying for anymore. 🀷
