0-conf chans only have a lifetime of 3 months, unless renewed. You can do up to 12 months w a purchase in advance chan.
UI should be much more clear in v0.10. Alpha comes out next week.
Understand the frustration and are positive UX will be drastically improved once this gets out the door.
