Wouldn't worry about it too much tbh Best accounts in any social media are just creatives that are creatives outside of the platform itself, they naturally attract and become spokes
I know we are slinging "$.02" around but is some of this a symptom of the high vs low time preference that bitcoin is currently subject to? It's going to take a lot for the hardcore hodlrs to let go of some of that. And traders be trading and using it is speculative fiat gains vs actual use and distribution to those who actually see what bitcoin has to offer. 🤔 View quoted note →
What Nostr can offer is a fair shot and access to a global market. No app can create demand or remove enough supply to sustain a certain creator. The opportunity here is to discover a niche and build it up without the usually associated rent seeking.

The number of people on Nostr is absolutely tiny right now. As user numbers grow the available funds for zapping will grow. Just because Nostr isn't supplanting Patreon or whatever else right this second doesn't mean it never will.
@Vitor Pamplona I have long been pounding the drum of topical hashtags in the on-boarding experience for client devs. That will be at least one piece of the puzzle and easy enough fix to help small creators and user discoverability. Imo, one of the reason why retention rates on #nostr are so low is the current model of suggesting public figures to follow rather than showcase our vibrant communities related to hobbies/interests. Look at #foodstr for instance, new content posted on the regular. Not throwing shade at any of our celebrity profiles, but if I was a new user coming in and saw really low engagement from the profile owner and comments in response to him I would conclude this place is dead, which isn't true but 1st impressions are everything. Some don't come on here regularly either and are still stuck on Twitter. With the topical hashtag model in theory those who are engaging the most on here would be better rewarded and gives a shot to small creators to hustle and make a name for themselves and interact with people and will help with retention of new users. Gives people an incentive to stay on #nostr permanently. The follower thing is broken anyway and is a vanity metric. Engagement and lasting user impressions of those we engage with should be what we should be focusing on, imo. Poor documentation of the lingo on here is another easy fix. No-one knows the whole "str" thing on hashtags when they first join for instance. It would help with new users and also help with the user discoverability problem, imo Don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but just making a general comment and giving an idea since you seem receptive to ideas in regards to how clients can help small creators. If you hate it you can at least call me an idiot 😂
it doesn't change the fact that nobody will want to pay, and it won't help like vitor wants
but it doesn't change the fact that small breeders can't pay their bills and buy a lamborghini 😭, there should be redistribution of sats 😁
Create an algorithm for suggesting profiles to follow, such as trending or recommended, there's no way around it, sooner or later this will be adopted. You can find people on twitter easily, exploring subjects, there everyone is seen. The user enters the application and is faced with a screen without any posts, it is discouraging, the first impression I had is that there was no one, until accessing the bubble that already exists here. It's worth the law of effort, if it doesn't get many sats, maybe other users don't like the content or don't have money to support them, that's normal. What should be done is to make it easier to recommend profiles, just hashtags I don't think is efficient.
bubbles are natural, why use social media to see what you don't want? Is it like centralized tv channels? Remove retwets because they are bubbles, I'll only share what I like, so it's a bubble. Remove follower posts because I follow bubble people. Remove my posts because anyone who agrees with me is a bubble. it's better to redefine the word bubble
I think the chronological dominance of Nostr is one of the main hurdles for content monetization. There is no real ability for any piece of content to go "viral". Obviously there are no algos promoting/ignoring content. While this is one of the main benefits of Nostr I also think its, paradoxically, one of its biggest problems. The chronologically ordered feed is what makes Nostr special and is something that needs to be protected however if Nostr is to turn into a platform that enables creators to effectively monetize I think it will require some sort of mechanism to distribute content based upon criteria that disregards time. As it currently stands, the ability of any piece of content to reach people is severely limited thus limiting its ability to earn sats. The amount of information conveyed by a price in an open market cannot be overstated. Nostr has the ability to balance and clarify price signals by providing a free and uncensored voice in cyberspace, which is a completely novel concept. We now have the ability to attach price signals to content, to ideas and thoughts. The clarity of signal and information density that we can provide to an open and free market via the display of zaps is something that should be built around. This signal is Truth. And, in my opinion, would actually be a good metric to build an algo around .
