Same problem here. Never found a valid explanation for 110 solving any actual problems other than stirring the mud and foatering dissidence that will later be evenore contentious, eventually erroding the protocol until Suitcoin is fully implemented. I too am incredibly interested in a valid explanation. And like the tech bros who talk about how many jobs will be created with AI, no one has given a rational explanation.

I support 110 in principle, knowing that it's not going to make any difference in blockchain spam, because I think there needs to be some accountability for core pushing through a policy change to benefit one spammer corporation (Citrea). It's a one-year middle finger to core. The idea behind the game theory (not sure at all whether this will work) is that a soft fork can be adopted with a significant minority of nodes and miners because all nodes accept the soft fork by default (because, as a soft fork, it restricts consensus rules that all nodes already accept) and thereby puts miners into a position where they will lose their block rewards if other miners switch to the soft fork. Each miner has a choice, they can switch to the soft fork and always get their block rewards, or not switch and has some small probability that they won't. The safe choice is to switch as there is no cost to switching for most.

The answer seems to be the assumption that one side is smaller in number and completely committed, not caring about profit and willing to tear the house down, while the other , much more conventionally powerful side, doesn't really care about a petty technical argument and will just act to ensure their flow of fees continue. If they sense a sea change from their competitors at the last minute, they don't want to be caught without a chair when the music stops.

By this logic every single proposed soft-fork will be adopted unless all of the bitcoin coordinates to hard fork before. So, if I propose a soft fork that just adds "akashi" to every block header, it will be activated on main chain just because noone cares enough to organize a hard fork.

You basically found a way of pushing spam into bitcoin consensus and our only hope is that all miners agree on "filters" so this does not go through :D

I definitely don't support BIP-110. I think it's an actual statist attack on Bitcoin fronted through Ocean and Luke Dashjr. Many of the people who support it are well meaning, but literally do not understand what Bitcoin is or how it works. The ICP Magnets meme is meant to indicate that the on a whole the 110ers are engaged in wishful, magical thinking and are essentially larping. They're out of their depth. The most surprising part of it for me was when Kratter got on board. I used to think he understood how Bitcoin works from a high level, and why minority forks always fail. No one can answer you with an actual rational argument as to why 110 is needed. It's all emotion.

Agreed and the second group uses facts, logic and reason in their arguments. The first group instantly jumps to ad hominem, insults and slander when challenged with facts. Just look at the two sides of 110 and what do you notice?

It is far to poorly run and ill thought out to be a statist plan. It is one angry coder and a large number or ill informed and largely incel angry plebs.

Further to that, my confidence is based primarily on two factors. 1. Prior success of minority driven UASF. BIP-148. It had less adoption and faced genuine opposition from miners who are largely indifferent to BIP-110. 2. Having verified the adoption and its authenticity.

Just went and dug up receipts from you. I advise not being frivolous when people bring up real concerns in advance of them blowing up. BIP110 is people trying to get ahead of a problem rather than wait.

Since there is no clear winner here… Pro BIP-110 can’t be explained and anti-BIP-110 is not the way. What are the options to keep the utxo set from doubling or tripling in the next 10 years so we all can keep running nodes?
