⚡️🔏 ICYMI - Signal is testing a major privacy feature: You can create a Signal account without a phone number. The new numberless registration uses an Account ID and Account Key, with an optional username. There’s a small catch: it requires a one time fee of around $3 to help prevent spam. The payment isn’t directly linked to your Signal account. Signal says it uses the same zero knowledge proofs as its donation system to ensure there’s no link between the payment and the account. For now, the only payment method is Google Play, which requires Google Play Services. Signal says it plans to add other payment methods in the future. "A pretty significant step for privacy, even if the current implementation still has a Google dependency." Would you use Signal without a phone number? image

The fact that there's no link between the payment and the account is pretty strange, and I can't fully trust it. If they accepted payments via BTC or LN, that would be much better.
Any "privacy" service not offering Monero as a paymant option is a honeypot. Besides that SimpleX has solved all the issues already and you can run your own servers and don't need to pay a single cent.
Wow.. impressive. Something that we've been doing with messengers since 30 years ago.
lol, NO There is zero privacy in that fedcoin. Has anyone already explained to you that the wallet and payments are transparent? Monero fixed that problem.
A nice little step. But first they would need to accept private payments in one or the other way, so it would actually be a privacy improvement.
It is simply a small step forward. Eventually, they can offer different payment options. But one has to start somewhere.
lol, no. Much less for any serious purchase other than a cup of coffee. Makes zero sense to use a crappy mechanism that depends on the LN to be both online and with enough money, plus having to cross fingers and hope it works since it will often get stuck on larger values. Zero privacy when a dedicated chainanalysis is performed. With monero you click "send" and it works. Simple
