United States of America contains "America" in the name. That is why we call them "Americans", and their country is "America" or "The States", for short. Calling Canadians or Mexicans or Argentinians "Americans" is just confusing. Using one word to describe an entire swath of the planet. That'd be like calling Germans "Eurasians" or Australians "Oceananians". Total loss of information.

You can call whatever you want whoever you want. As you wish. But America is a continent. 🫂

North America is a continent, South America is a continent, Central America is the southern most geographical region of North America. There are North Americans, there are South Americans, and when you refer to Americans that is people from the United States of America who are also North Americans.
