If it was strictly socialist/communists policies that caused all of Cubas hardships, how do you explain China, and many other socialist countries thriving?

China embraced capitalism in parts of their economy. Deng Xiaoping created “Special Economic Zones” because he realized communism was failing.
Which other socialist/communist countries are you referring to?
Vietnam is communist and most of Southeast Asia. Countries that are experimenting with socialism that are furthest away from the US and Europe appear to be better off than countries geographically closest.
