From what I read, you need to pay three dollars for that feature and you can only pay with Google Pay. To me it always felt like Signal was a honeypot. And the leadership of the foundation that manages Signal makes me even more doubtful. Also, they've always been against Bitcoin and even made their own shit coin. Delta.Chat is much better. Nothing required. All open source, all free.

Definitly a good donation. Different projects to a more privacy centric world are increasing eachothers usecase. Signal offers a messenger, that is very easy to opt for and offers very good privacy. It still has some shortcomings. But also offered technical clientside solutions to the privacy community, which became a de facto standard.
