Any new candidates or leadership that emerges in the Democratic Party side of things, I’m hitting them hard with info on bitcoin and how they better get with the program or voters will tell them what’s up. There is a massive old guard v new guard dynamic.
This isn’t because I love politics or our two party system. But because that’s an avenue of influence I have to try to make a positive different and less attack vectors to bitcoin rights and freedom in the U.S. and around the world.
The Democratic Party will have its Trump moment (what Trump did to the Republican Party in ‘16). And I want to make sure when that happens they’ve been presented with a good road map for how to approach bitcoin (freedom, self custody, privacy, developers, power to the people)

Who do you see as up and coming power players for the Dems?
Leadership and democrat are oxymorons
Good luck, because IMHO it's a tough sell right now... While I'm glad the current admin seems interested in taking the boot off the neck of the crypto industry in general, the net effect of this is that Bitcoin is perceived as wearing the MAGA hat by just about anyone on the left (centrist or progressives).
We had to deal with the "it's all just for drugs" narrative in the early-2010's, the "it's all just a big waste of energy" narrative in the late-2010's, and now "it's all Trump Corruption Money" is the new narrative for 2025.
Not OP, but what I perceive is a conflict between a sort of more technocratic / realpolitik wing of centrists, think Gavin Newsom as the "face" and people like Ezra Klein as the technocrats....
And on the other side, a newly energized wave of Socialists like Zohran Mamdani in NYC, but as opposed to the past decade, less emphasis on the "woke" and more on the "eat the rich"/"Free Luigi".
I like this framing. I have a feeling that the winner of dem nom will have to be populist (Mamdani-esque) and have to take anti-Israel stance to galvanize their base.
It will be very very interesting to see who rises to the top between now and 2028
Charismatic dems will seize the opportunity; nature hates a vacuum.
Lots of time between now and 2028…
Yeah the Israel thing will be tough for the Dems to figure out. Trump admin has stayed pretty staunchly pro-Israel in a way that seems incongruous with their base...
Dems might wind up following a similar path, although if they're smart they'd realize how much this cost them in Michigan where Arab groups rebelled against Kamela.
What's the most appealing aspect of bitcoin to Democrat politicians?
It seems rather unaligned with what the party has come to promote.
Flys in the face of oligarchy and greedy corporations. Promotes greater financial freedom and consumer choice — protects workers savings, and is new technology which the democrats used to lead on, they’re trying to get back to that point again with younger politicians
Makes sense. I remember when Democrats pretended to care about those things.
