(reading about migrating away from a well-known email provider -- regardless): "tags/labels may need manual recreation in the new system" 😐 Categories for emails, calendar events and contacts are all good and useful, but they are not transferable across email providers. IMAP, the minimum common denominator email access protocol does not have a concept of thematic labels/tags/categories. Hence it's understandable that each email client has its own solutions (which doesn't map, obvs, to other clients). It's not that I change providers often, but I was hoping things would've improved a bit since I left Gmail back in 2017.. GN #email #imap

I have pretty much given up the hope of using email categories and expect the client will take advantage of IMAP custom keywords. I read IMAP servers or clients that support custom keywords are scarce. The alternative could be only using 4-5 folders besides inbox. But search email/smart folders based on categories will be missed. #email
