Hey nostr:npub1hxx76n82ags8jrduk0p3gqrfyqyaxnrlnynu9p5rt2vmwjq6ts3q4sg75y nostr:npub1235tem4hfn34edqh8hxfja9amty73998f0eagnuu4zm423s9e8ksdg0ht5 My Pixel 5a with #GrapheneOS froze on me yesterday, and powered down. Was at ~65% battery. I was doing a lot of back-n-forth between apps. It did it earlier that day too when I was doing a similar workflow (back-n-forth between Nostr apps, browsers, etc.) The device will not turn on, even when trying to hard restart. Any suggestions to get it to turn back on? It seems like the RAM may be full. Was not dropped, never really abused it (leaving it on for days at a time at the most). Pixel 5a. Yes old, but I first flashed GOS in late 2023 as brand new device, so only been operating for ~16 months. Any help is appreciated 💜

If your device is not powering on with no Google logo or OS warning screen at all it isn't related to GrapheneOS. You'd at least get a boot loop. Please check your battery and charger, and if it doesn't work then it sounds like you have a hardware failure.

I think it may be a hardware failure. I've had it plugged into the original pixel charger it came with for two days now and still nothing. No normal boot loading screen, even with a hard restart, etc. Just to try, I even took a head gun and warmed the whole device up quite a bit just to see if it would help some solder contacts or other connection points, as a last ditch effort. Still nothing. We'll see what it does in a few days time, but I've already assumed this 5a is toast after only ~16 months of use.

The 5a is old, it's unsupported and missing almost all our major new features anyway. The Pixel 9a is on the way and likely will discount the previous generations too. 8a is the cheapest device that has every security feature and is supported for a long time too. The 6a is the cheapest currently supported device and is the second-soonest to be unsupported (July 2027).

Sorry to hear of your potential phone loss. Curious to know what you and others may do in these situations to avoid any potential data compromise before recycling.
