image Tested this cheap and quick to establish ground cover mix for our new #foodforest patches: - Nasturtium - Cosmos - Calendula - Fragaria Didn't see (barely) any grass or other plants come through (yet). And the patches have been showing off their flowery awesomeness non-stop since spring.

We find cover crops too annoying to manage here. And since we scaled down or veg production to family scale, we're trying this now: nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzp22rfmsktmgpk2rtan7zwu00zuzax5maq5dnsu5g3xxvqr2u3pd7qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskuep0qydhwumn8ghj7argv4nx7un9wd6zumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcqyr77mweckplpxvvezn477sknap2agxk5w9q6j66896a589nuf99rgkdkzxp

We actually did not use cover crops either when we were in commercial production because they are difficult to manage and time correctly—and on small scale we simply never had the space! Every bed must be filled at all times. 😜 But now that things are more relaxed and we have also scaled down to family production only, we have plenty of extra space that would otherwise be empty or go to weeds. So I do a large block of cover crop, then terminate and tarp with a silage tarp. No need to rush or time it just right. And when you peel back the tarp you have beautiful clean and freshly composted beds to plant in. Rotate, and repeat! 🔁
