You might be better off selling the Mac and intalling Linux on something else. I've been using Linux since the 90's. My spouse had a Macbook Pro from a time before we met. Due to Apple upgrade practices, it started losing functionality, so I installed Linux. It certainly became way more useful, but there were still issues, like wifi being unstable. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ It got so frustrating that we got her a Windows laptop, wiped it clean, installed Linux, and everything's been great since. In terms of what distribution is best for you, only you will be able to answer that. My recommendadtion is to dedicate a weekend (or more) to "distro shopping". This entails going through popular distributions, putting them on a bootable USB, and test driving them. Not every single feature will be available (for example, special keys/lights on your keyboard), but you'll be able to verify that all the major pieces of hardware work with that distribution. Or, you might find that a particular distro just doesn't work. Once you've found your top two or three favorites. Install one and play around. If it installs without error, and everything else (ports, lights, etc), then you're good to go. If you run into any problems, do some cursory troubleshooting. If that doesn't work, install your next candidate. You can find the most popular distributions at:
