It’s not okay and it’s probably coming in the US sooner than what people expect. The solution is to grow a circular economy based on alternative uncensorable medium of payments such as crypto or goldbacks. Holding some of those instruments is necessary but not sufficient.
So I noticed that this has been making the rounds here on Nostr.
As someone who has lived in China for a few decades I have no idea what this person is talking about. While it is true that you need to verify on payment apps like Alipay and Wechat, there's never been a time when I was required to verify via facial recognition.
I have no idea what is actually going on in this video, but I am fairly certain it has nothing to do with accessing payment platforms.

its very unclear whether this video is what its setup to be. I fell for this as well at first, but apparently she isn't using her own account and has to verify with this one particular payment method. also the video is rather old.
while I still have problems with this regardless, it cant be taken as an example for a dystopian china. Just watch the new proposed bills and noone needs a video like this. I can also recommend
