I think this is where the discussion becomes very interesting, because almost unbelievably it is following a predictable divide. People who value community highly enough to feel it is righteous to ask others to make sacrifices for the community based on what the community wants those sacrifices to be. And People who value individual liberty, individual property, and personal responsibility above what the community needs while believing that adhering to those core values is the best way to serve the community in the end. It's two fundamentally different world views that are always fighting one another, both with a pretty reasonable narrative and a good argument to be made.
Sure, most do, but at some point if you deal with vile harassment nonstop it’s probably not worth it. Maybe you still believe in the cause, even, but that doesn’t mean you’ll work on it.
