Don’t blow money on a wedding. We don’t “regret” it per se but the 40K we spent at the time could have gone to better use. **400K ish in Bitcoin terms now.

Fuck the ceremony and fuck a state signed marriage contract. Commit if you think it’s the right move, write your own private marriage contract together with a lawyer as a baby sitter (good exercise for a couple anyway). Spend the money you saved on skipping the cringe ceremony on a huge sovereign matrimonial party then go to Italy or wherever you both want for a month as a proper honey moon.
Yeah, I originally suggested a big BBQ in park, but we went with the Full Bavarian, instead. The whole thing (all three days, together) costed less than €10k and was quite wonderful and elegant. I'm not sure why other people's weddings are so expensive. Wedding math is weird.
My buddy eloped in the coolest way and has had stories tell forever. They've been together now for 20 years. Their eloping was purely for the adventure of it and nothing more.
But he was actually asking who eloped, not how much the wedding costed or how big the wedding was. A small, inexpensive wedding is still a celebration of the new marriage, with friends and/or family.
You can throw a banger of a wedding for 300+ reception for about 10k, granted that was more then a few years ago and we cut every corner we could but my Aunt who had a boat wedding (and is ALWAYS a one upper) conceded ours was better.
Is your family anything like mine? We show up for funerals, weddings, and parties. Don’t ever go into debt for a party, but don’t deprive them of a chance to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime event. Sorry not sorry I crashed the eloping side of the debate.

I made it up as a spoof that most men don't dream about getting martied. I dont think it would survive long without readers. But then again, I never thought there would be "men" in womens sports 😆

Didn’t bother me until he died. Then having at least a ring to show our kids would have been good. Felt like a 2nd grade widow on a bad day

Dont regret it at all. It was the best decision. The experience should be for you and your wife, not other people. Also big weddings seem stupid stressful.
We kinda did both. Eloped, didn’t tell anyone, then sent out the “wedding” invitations, and had the big sheebang in Mexico, saved a bunch of money, made all the families happy, and got to watch our people who may have not even said “hello” to each other at a traditional wedding, have drinks, break bread, and bond together for 3 days. Would do it just like that if we could do it again. 🤙🏼
