Since the devices were only capable of producing about a trillion possible keys there is a slim chance of key collision: two Coldcards having generated the same key.

Exactly. It's hard to even comprehend just how tiny of a fraction of the total key space these devices utilized.
A seed generated with 256 bits of entropy is 1.053 * 10⁶⁵ times harder to brute force than one with 40 bits.
That's 105,312,291,668,557,186,697,918,027,683,670,432,318,895,095,400,549,111,254,310,977,536 times stronger.
