Since the devices were only capable of producing about a trillion possible keys there is a slim chance of key collision: two Coldcards having generated the same key.

Exactly. It's hard to even comprehend just how tiny of a fraction of the total key space these devices utilized.

A seed generated with 256 bits of entropy is 1.053 * 10⁶⁵ times harder to brute force than one with 40 bits.
That's 105,312,291,668,557,186,697,918,027,683,670,432,318,895,095,400,549,111,254,310,977,536 times stronger.

If the Coinkite rep assumes that the RNG is good - and why wouldn't he? - then to him it just isn't possible. (I didn't watch the whole thing so I don't know what happened beyond the first minute or so.)

Yes. You can do that too. Or take very first key of them all. Has a lot of history.
The point is it wasnt not randomly generated
He didn't use device to generate it. He chose manually.
This tells me 2 things:
1) the education level of the average maxi,
2) the absolute incompetence of the coinkite team.
Obviously, accidental collisions from ColdCard's pathetic RNG-generated entropy was inevitable... but, that this collision occurred with a seed used exactly once just 3 days earlier seems incredible to me... something else (at least in addition to the pathetic entropy) is almost certain to be going on here. right?
