“Mamdables”…?
I'm kinda thinking MAGA and Democratic Socialism are the same thing. Both are romanticizing the past where the American Dream existed for certain people, without realizing it was a complete Goldylox phase in society. Where America's was post war industry was the last one standing after WWII and we controlled the money printer. Where public works were built with no profitability and Wall Street was extracting wealth from around the world with IMF loans.
I have mixed feelings about Bitkey. It's definitely not for me, but I can see the utility for a different market segment. The inheritance feature is a strong selling point. The general concept is great, but I feel like the implementation could be improved (more open source and sovereign etc.) To be fair, device + service failure is probably ~0% chance. I haven't done a deep dive on the technical details, but I get a "non-sovereign" and "trust me bro" vibe from the research that I've done. I'm much more comfortable with a coldcard and IRL contingencies.

💯 I haven't really done a deep dive on the technical details either. Maybe I would if the description from their own documentation of how their ecosystem works wasn't a nonstarter for me to begin with. They do appear to go through great lengths to make sure most (if not all) of their code is open-source, however; and they deserve props for doing so. I'm just not sure how useful that actually is considering the market segment that I think you and I agree this device might be useful for (if any).

Correct. If your device fails (e.g. lost, broken), your only option is to get another one - even if you just want to immediately exit after you get it. The app on your phone has the key to setup a new hardware key for your new device; and then cosign with the key on the server to move your funds from the old 2-of-3 keyset to the new 2-of-3 keyset. The only purpose of the recovery contact is to help recover the 1 key that's in the app (i.e. in case you lose your phone)... you would still need access to at least 1 of the other 2 keys.
