The world as it appears to most people is exactly as you would expect if the abundance that should flow to them through the free market was being captured by a control system.

Housing affordability is a bit more complex, depending where you are. Half the problem is everybody wants to live in the same place. I'm fortunate to run my own business from home so don't need to live in the cities, but I have a massive house on a huge block and it cost me the equivalent of about 3 years the national average salary. there are affordable homes, if you're flexible. I know people that refuse to leave cities they can't afford to live in because thats where they grew up. and? life don't work like that. I also think the working harder is nit a bad thing. work ethic these days is shockingly bad, and productivity is through the floor. but you're definitely right in the concentration of wealth and dependence on government. the sad fact is pepole vote for it. things like Net Zero will utterly bankrupt the middle and working classes, and corporare owners will get huge government incentives/bribes.

Far more of a dystopian waking nightmare than most of us could have predicted a decade ago. God help us.

I'm reading this thread and honestly, I'm not sure what angle you're pushing back on here—can you spell it out?

then I guess you weren't paying attention a decade ago. the gfc of 2009 should've at least been your first hint. so should a history book. Athens had the same problem 2500 years ago, for example. the problrm is cities.
Work ethic is bad? In the US, In my experience that isn't true. I am genuinely surprised to see many people working some jobs at all, considering what they make. Lack of care in doing the job is understandable. As far as living in cities, that is where the vast majority of employment is. Most people that are living the idyllic country life-style made a fortune in big cities, then moved to the country. The rest have land inherited from generations back. I grew up in the country and as far as affordability, its about the same, but with less crime (ROI on crimes like burglary is low due to likelyhood of being shot). A few people have land and nice houses, and most live in dilapidated to falling down hovels.

i haven't worked in the US for 25 years. was fairly hit and miss, some people work hard some are lazy shits. but I've lived and worked on 4 different continents for 30+ years and in general the work ethic has declined drastically. people want all the perks and benefits without paying their dues. I live in the country and surrounded by every part of society. most are just extremely hardworking and doing what they need to do to pay the bills. we have 2 families in town that are rich and own a lot of land, but the rest are and interesting mix. sure we have peoole on benefits and the associated issues, but mosy people have left the cities and trying to make a go of. Many new businesses starting up, and then others to service them. I've started a couple myself. Cities have been a source of problems since they were invented. pollution, disease, crime, also makes people much easier to control being all in the same area. you couldn't pay me to live in a city again.

I'm in the US, and see it differently. I'm sure it's because each region has it's differences. Are there wealthy retirees, or people that inherited 50 acres living outside city limits? Sure. At the same time, there are far more rural residents that are barely scraping by, or live below the poverty level. There's certainly not enough wealth in my rural area to sustain anything "high class". About the closest thing we have is a golf course that begs for anyone to come play. Meanwhile, worth ethic is very poor. When I was an employee, in order to look like a rock star I only had to do three things: 1. Show up on time (which means showing up early) 2. Not leave mid-afternoon. (i.e. stay until the end of the day) 3. Work while I was there. (i.e. don't slack off, or waste company time) Contributing anything extra, like thought, had employers beyond impressed.

I don’t even comment much, but this project deserves attention image
“Tell me," Wittgenstein's asked a friend, "why do people always say, it was natural for man to assume that the sun went round the earth rather than that the earth was rotating?" His friend replied, "Well, obviously because it just looks as though the Sun is going round the Earth." Wittgenstein replied, "Well, what would it have looked like if it had looked as though the Earth was rotating?” ― Ludwig Wittgenstein
