Of course they were, and the free market chose the winner. Let them do the same now: remove all the subsidies for electric vehicles, the penalties on internal combustion engine manufacturers, and the regulations—and let's see who wins.

I'm all for it and I like electric cars but you can't call them woke
Electric cars produce enormous EMF fields. If we regulate CO2 we should also regulate EMF.
Earth emits more EMF than all of humanity's toys combined.
Where should we send her bill?
The free market? Oil barrons in the 20's crushed electric cars because they were were threatening profits. Electric motors are more efficient, period. The power of oil is wasted on cars. Oil is for trucks, haulers, and heavy machinery. I'm tired of people looking at a tool as a team sport. Use the tool for the job it's best at. Passenger cars? Electric. Big trucks? Diesel.
Everything emits EMFs, we are electromagnetic beings. This is like saying "people emit radio waves" yeah we do, but not in a way decipherable by a standard tuner.
EMFs aren't flatly a bad thing. You just need to know the frequency.
You know all those subsidies pale in comparison to the $7 trillion in subsidies that fossil fuels receive globally each year, right? So ya, let's do the same, but also don't forget to get rid of those subsidies too.
