I really don’t like weight lifting—it’s hard, I have to push myself, and take responsibility for how I look and feel, which is hard in and of itself.
However I do recognize that I almost always have a better mood, more motivation, and just a higher capacity to get shit done on the days that I do lift.
I don’t wanna be fat, weak, and unhealthy when I’m 40, so I’d rather just eat the frog now and just accept that it is hard work and there is no way around that.

Exactly in the same place. Started back at the gym last week. It's hard but it's necessary.
Lift heavy things.
In the same boat actually
The work never ends.
You can either put yourself through some hard shit now or let life put you through some harder shit further down the line
weight lifting is also so repetitive 😖 podcasts push the boredom out of it

Yep, just about choosing what kinda hard you want
Fuck. I'm 41. I immediately felt really old after reading this note.
It’s hard now or late, decide which flavor you’d like.
pilates is underappreciated, it’s so hard
PoW. Hard money, hard body. I recommend Bitcoin Audible’s “Anatomy of the State” for workouts.

Agree
I love the discipline of training for the sport of weightlifting (as opposed to the tedium of just lifting weights).
In my 6th decade and as strong as ever.
Reading your experience, I am so happy I loved weightliting from the beginning.
Do you know the weighted therapy blankets that autists love?
To me lifting weights is doing the same. It's deeply grounding to battle gravity. It's like a massage. It's meditation. It's a deep hug though all my muscles.
You also don't have to push yourself too hard to get the benefits.
The only annoying thing is the way to the gym (when it's raining).

Conquer your inner bitch. There are many ways to do it, but the one thing they have in common is that it will be hard. As you said, either start today or be forced to later, and it will be even harder then. It's also helpful to find someone to join you on this journey, to keep each other accountable. Best of luck of pushing through and coming out the other side stronger, healthier and feeling good.
go Ivan! true that mfr! (^_^)
Yea, at the beginning of the year when I started to do cold plunge and sauna, the motto was:
Don’t be a little bitch.
😂 As someone who was there with you, I can confirm.
Felt this so much
Great motto 👌
Hard because legs hips and core complex on most of us are weak. After Pilates stand tall like tree
Enjoy your work Erik.
If all models are broken?
What if Weight Lifting is not the best choice to stimulate muscle?

I'm going to make a new Nostr bot and have it send you weekly messages on Nostr that say "Don't be a little bitch, lift the weights". In honor of the spam bots lately I'll name it Motivational Guy.
My hack has been to just commit to a minimum of 15 minutes every morning in the gym (Sundays off). I don't have to lift heavy every day. I don't force myself to stay for hours. Just building the habit.
It's incredible how much my mood improved just by committing a little bit of time every morning to my health.
Lifting has the same effects on me. I’m 70 years old, and been lifting since I was in high school.
Proof of work never lets you down.
☝🏻 this is my strategy too. showing up is half the battle.
best hack - get a partner who gyms, so one of you is always there to motivate the other to show up on down days 🤙🏼
will give this a try, aots is on my reading list 🤙🏼
same for me! it's a good chance to get some content consumption in, two birds with one stone an all that
but i worry that maybe my gains are lower if my attention is split...
you can't choose NOT to suffer, only how (and when) you suffer. actively and intentionally is always better than passively and unintentionally 💪🏼
Be sure to watch this short clip before you go to the gym next time, Erik.
And worse still, it's absolutely non-linear. You work harder just to stay in the same shape let alone improve as you age.
Jeff, it goes deeper, imho, in a myriad of ways! i wouldn't just use shape.
staying fit/ lifting is just 1 app
in my experience, weightlifting feels horrible when you haven’t done it for a while. But after going for a couple months consistently it starts to feel good, almost addicting.
