This will be me in a couple of weeks when my new ISP finally delivery’s fibre Internet.
I have Cat5 throughout the property, I’m hoping it can run faster than 100Mb/s 🤞
I started doing a little bit of research into the versions of Cat, and it looks like Cat 8 is what you want for the fastest, close range connections.
I don’t have a choice my house and out buildings were cabled in 2007 as it was being rebuilt. Unless I want to run ugly ducting on the outside of my beautiful costwold stone house, I’m stuck with it 😂
Would you be able to tie the new cabling to the old cable and then carefully pull it through? That might work if the space isn't too tight.
On a couple of the runs, perhaps, but most of it is too long and too tight a fit.
The network itself terminates in my office building which is a way from the house and a further distance to the garages and workshop.
At the very least, see if you can get a Cat 8 from your modem to your switch/router. I don't know how crazy your network is, but definitely getting that ethernet from the modem is important.
Sadly the fibre company are unable to deliver the fibre to my office, which means it’s going to sit on a spur in my house.
That run, one that I am likely unable to upgrade, will define my future Internet speed.
