I think both are good feature to have at the same time. But what if you can Zap somebody with a reaction attached to it ? 😁
Petition to do a testrun and de-activate the likes the whole month of March
No-Likes March🏃
This might be controversial,
1. I love the zap lightning feature on each post and this is the right way.
But I think if there is a metric / count system at the bottom of each post to see how many zaps / likes / engagement - then this is not right as it end up fuelling the same yearning of addictions and obsessions. This is why Ig removed ‘likes count’ ie how many likes that other ppl can see on your posts.
2. But given it definitely creates hype and engagement with the zap and like metric system, maybe this is better off for artist payments, crowdfunding, creative commerce marketplace ? And it can serve as both positive review and funding for the content producer / user
3. I am not disdained over likes - some post are nice to be liked, not enough to be reposted and might be too much effort for zap. But also understand Jack’s take on how likes can be an easy algo path and that no one can track zap. On social media, ‘like’ is used as a metric to reward monetary wise and build hype which is what zap can do now - so if both like and zap are present, the user adoption from like to zap would be slower too so pros and cons there
#[2] I suggest you give the user the choice to remove ❤️(likes).
You can then measure what % of Iris users opts to remove ❤️(likes), and share this info with the nostriches.
I suspect ❤️(likes) are a familiar pattern than newbie Iris and nostr users will want to see.

I think likes, reposts and zaps have their own use. I don't see the need to get rid of one. In real life I can give someone a thumbs up, I can pass along something someone said, or I can pay someone for something.
