I've asked this question a few times over the years, on various platforms, but still haven't found a solid answer:
What iPod alternatives exist today? And which will sync with some kind of FOSS equivalent to iTunes?
I'd love to listen to a dozen or so albums and also keep some podcasts synced up but would prefer not to carry my mobile phone around all the time.
Anyone seen any decent solutions out there? If possible, it'd be great to avoid the Apple ecosystem.

I don't know about a FOSS version of iTunes but Fiio M21
Haven't bought one yet but I searched far and wide earlier this year, to find something with metal+glass exterior and no cameras or microphones or speakers, like the original first gen iPod touch

Same company might have something similar but less expensive, I can't remember what else they have

After reading a few reviews, it looks like most of their products are Android-based, so I may be able to just install Fountain or a similar podcast app. Fingers crossed, it's something as simple as that!
