Clique building on Nostr is brutal. If you're in it, you get celebrated for every little fart. If you're out, nobody notices anything from you. It's not about quality, it's about relationships. It's an unholy clique. And they want to solidify it even more with all these poorly thought out WoT mechanisms. That's one of the main reasons I want broad adoption. So that this group's interpretive dominance gets broken up and split among several other groups.

Fire note. Alp on point like always. Greatest dev of all time. Fuck every other client and dev team. Noornote or gfy.
Agreed. Seems like two things need to happen simultaneously. One, new users need to be incentivized to gravitate toward thier cliques (this will require some effort from new user, client can't do this completely). 2, the big cliques need to be broken into sub cliques maybe? But we need to clearly conceptualize what we mean by clique and how that concretely translates into a Nostr thing
this is true for any social construct. it should be an incentive for new builders to find other stream of users.
an intellectual called mr beast said recently "if youre just an other cow on the side of the road nobody will notice, if youre a purple cow everyone will look". be the purple cow.
Whats the point tho... Fragmentation just means more division, less people interacting with other POVs, more polarization, thats exactly what legacy SM algorithms did... Its just more echo chambers, i get it, echo chambers are comfortable, but they are pointless.
Imagine tommorrow there are 1 million new muslim Nostr users. If everyone is locked into a node of 100 users, that is no different than noornode today. The reach is the same, we all have an audience of 100.
Surely the idea should be to bring larger followings to a central node so that we can actually reach people and have an audience for podsystems for example.
Hello, unrelated comment here, found this through the palestine tag.
Has anyone made a backup of the Genocide archive X account on Nostr?
if they come back online or have a website it qould be great to inform them about the censorship resistance ability of Nostr!
"Imagine tommorrow there are 1 million new muslim Nostr users"
That must be hallucinations from the fasting.
its just a thought experiment
Interesting idea. I think there's a website for this but I can't seem to remember the name of it atm
I think the underlying assumption I'd challenge is why was "reach" the default metric that we're using for success? Should increased 'reach' be our end goal with nostr? Yes, you might only be able to reach 100 people on nostr (this would actually be a vast improvement for many on LSM, but anyway), but the difference we should strive for is that those 100 connections should be more meaningful. The concept of people having followers should also be examined. I don't think the internet was supposed to be this way and I think there are much more beneficial ways of organizing communication in cyber. This is what nostr devs and users should be thinking about it (they are already, just good to reiterate)
That's true, the concept of 'following' is about to change on Nostr. It's still a relic from the LSM days, and a lot of Nostr developers have a hard time letting it go. For me, it's already the case that I follow tons of people without formally following them, through the Tribes feature. And I 'follow' a bunch of people now not because their posts interest me, but because of what they sell on the NIP-99 marketplace (I'll decouple that eventually inshallah) and so their offers get sprinkled into my timeline.
you can also just follow curated relays. i'm so good at just checking #NoorNode i forget i have other followers on my main timeline most days 🤣
Yes, I do that too. But they are rare right now. Wish there was a relay curated around AI or so.
tbh, i still don't understand tribes 😅
But you should. It's an awesome tool. It's basically your timeline of curated folks.
need to play around with it. my failed test a while back muted my interest.
i actually have an idea with them, just been waiting for some free time. iA after Ramadan
Why does it matter if there are cliques on nostr? Isn’t kinda of natural for people to naturally gravitate to people they know and who seem to speak with some “authority” for lack of a better phrase.
Sure the big names get a lot of the attention but who cares to be honest. See what you and @Muslim Bitcoiner are doing is pretty fucking cool and you don’t need permission or validation from anyone to do it.
I stay on nostr because I find people more authentic and interesting. IMO I think people will find nostr when they have a need for it just like people find bitcoin when they feel like they need inconfiscatable money. If we keep doing our thing and building relationships organically Nostr will continue to grow slowly but surely. Keep doing what you are doing my friend!!
That's why I wrote that it's an unholy clique. It's not about permission or validation. We do what we do anyway. Even as a minority within a minority. But the fact that they make such a big fuss over their projects that eat up so much manpower and capital, should be mentioned at least once.
💯 agree with you
This problem should be agbostic. Nostr should be agnostic to what reach means and numbers being as metric or not. People should eventually find their own tribes, may be tribe which values that 100 connections and not the counts and all, but many may still evaluate their success as how much audience they are getting and what's the incentive to be on social media. So nostr should be social anarchy where anyone can be anything without forcing it on someone else. problems should not be attached to nostr, but rather in itself. Only problem objectively nostr solves is decentralization and freedom from technofeudalists, other than that all should be discussion of subjective interests.
I like this approach! But I'd caution that sometimes we think we're being agnostic but it turns out that we end up promoting a type of mindset/outlook or design that's left over from LSM. We should be thinking creatively and out of the box. Now is the time to try some new and crazy things as we're building.
This notification miss convinced me to use noornote. Lol seeing this after 5 days
