liability insurance in a tesla is probably pretty low, for tjebreason you mention. but unless you own it outright, you're gonna have full coverage.

just checked: 200-300$ a month for insurance
that's a lot more than the 80 bucks i pay... i'll probably just drive extra careful with my old car.
there's a Comma AI $999 device that can convert 2016 and newer vehicles to self driving on highways... i've been really wanting to try that. however, the Tesla system works everywhere, including parking lots.
I might convert my 90s vehicle to auto at some point.. not to it's possible with all open-source software & hardware tho.
until then, if I have to do something automated or "safer" it will likely be a lease
90s vehicle to Auto as in electric steering/adaptive cruise control in it?
if so that sounds like a challenging project! i do kinda wonder how hard it is to convert an older vehicle to something that could drive itself.
it's probably only worth it for highly valuable vehicles though
