As usual @Contra got me thinking, and this time it was about “respect.” It’s an interesting psychological posture that comes in 3 basic forms, respect for personhood, respect for character traits and respect for a role in society. I am in the camp where I fundamentally respect someone’s personhood, but when it comes to character I am definitely in the “it’s got to be earned” camp. From day one I am focusing in on both the micro human transactions and also the big interactions. I want to see how a person builds their story over time. I also want to hear from others who have had dealings. I want to gather information about how they handle the really tough situations that come from time to time.
