I still have the first 2 CDs I ever bought: Rammstein’s Herzeleid and Metallica’s The Memory Remains single.
Maybe they even still work but I don’t have a CD player.

Gotta rip em. Ymdo you have a cd drive on your 'puter?
Memory remains single was the second CD I bought too 😂. I bought Load of a friend for my first.
I wish I kept CDs. The future looks like we’ll have to ‘sign on’ under a Digital ID to download
About 25 years ago I served served Ramstein in the green room backstage.
They didn't seem to know much English.
The guys kept just repeating "Meat" at me in thick German accents. 🤣
Both aren’t rare and there’s many FLAC rips of both of them.
Even the single: https://www.mediafire.com/file/rg88g3iumnlw1f6/1997+11+10+%5BCDS%5D+Ecopack.zip
I’m not gonna buy myself a CD player anytime soon. These things were meant to break after 2-3 years.
Many don’t like Metallica of that era but I give both (Re)Load a few spins every other year.
The link doesn't point to a source for the single. But I'm sure you could buy/pirate the flacs somewhere, but as you already own it, you have the ability to rip a bitperfect copy as flac yourself for free (if your computer had a disc drive). If you dont have that, and you only have a small handful of CDs, i can understand that it may not be worth it to buy a CD drive for this purpose.
Weird, the link went straight to the single when I looked it up. But yeah, something’s off now.
I have about ~150 CDs in total. Some rare Black Metal 1st presses. Maybe I’ll just sell it. There’s really nothing that hasn’t been ripped already.
I'm not part if any torrent group, but I imagine you have to be part of a pretty good private tracker group to get rare albums. I've used soulseek forever, and am limited on quality flacs from rare sources. I see someone has invites in the thread to a torrent group.
150 CDs is def worth a cd player IMHO. Its a much better medium than mp3 or whatever kids are downloading these days. CDs get a bad name. It sounds like you have a pretty badass collection.
Metal Tracker is a private tracker where you can find almost everything. Invite only though, afaik.
Probably have to pass a test and queue to get in.
I only got in because I used to use a shared account from bugmenot.com and apparently some still exist:
metal-tracker.com passwords - BugMeNot.
Access and share logins for metal-tracker.com
I bought a CD player to replace my old one that had died in 2001. In 2017 my gf found it in my room like "WTF, you still have one of these!", and while I lost the girl, I still have that device and it still works in 2026.
I also have an original design 2006 iPod and it also still works.
I haven't looked for any wired headphones recently though...
