Hope this one makes it. It would be great if forces were joined on making some hardware for a linux phone. We have the Librem phone by Purism, which never really took off, I mean it costs 1999$. Then there is the Ubuntu Touch project, which only works on select hardware and is barely usable... In the end I imagine raspberryPIs and alike will get so small and powerful they will be used as phones at some point 😉

Nice find. Hope they actually make it to production. I've had so many disappointing experiences with crowdfunding and Linux portables.

I'm definitely curious. If they remain sub $500 or keep it 'midrange' prices I'm in. Librem were just too expensive. Some of those specs make me think this will be a flagship price point though.

Between 800 to 1300 USD. At those prices I'll just pass. Pinephone is only 350 USD by comparison.

Have you used a pine phone? I haven't kept up with them since the pine book pro came out, but curious to see how theyve grown. I know grapheneOS is planning a phone with a company like Motorola that is designed for it. But it'll be some time.

Didn't try. Saw the complaints about low battery life and my preference are phones with batteries that last a week.

Perhaps you could see it as investments in the future of such phones. Voting with your sats. By the way, every Android phone uses the Linux kernel. Android/Linux rather than GNU/Linux.

I don't recall where I read this, but the 4G and 5G protocols require incredible power consumption. It's not the screens that consume most of the power anymore.
