Age verification is a tactic to get you to use your digital ID and normalize it
That was an interesting write-up. I think one of the reasons there is so little resistance to this in Europe is that in the south people tend to assume that the government will do such a poor job that they will easily find a way around the rules, while in north people tend to believe the government has their back. That is a broad generalization, of course.
The Travel Rule is not about stopping crime. It didn’t work in TradFi and now they’re forcing the same failed surveillance architecture onto Bitcoin. Once they link every tx to real IDs, self custody and privacy are gone. Efrat’s piece explains how this fits into the bigger 'Digital Cage' rolling out in 2026.
