Not having global is not so much about protection but just better UX. If we design our discovery experience well and have means to uncover topics and find new people, there’s really no need for global. It IS nice to see other languages in the same place to get a feel for who is using nostr, but otherwise it’s an unfiltered fire hose that doesn’t provide much value to anyone. New users see it as garbage and established users don’t need it.

Wouldn't use such a client. I filter what's necessary to protect myself. We should aspire to nature, and nature has no guardrails.

Agreed. I still think global is one of the most compelling aspects. The translation hiccup is what drives me from it though. It's actually fun to throw random global posts into google translate from time to time.
Find @npub12rzu...hrv9 and start searching people in his threads if you want cats and people. If you want more politics, IT and Bitcoin, there's tons of that everywhere.😅 Try hashtags, nostr is about adding that -str, so #artstr #mumstr #dadstr #carstr and so on. You can use #asknostr and #grownostr to get wide audience. If you find someone good, check what relays is he connected to and add some. But you have to start with following people, otherwise your timeline will be empty. image
The ‘discovery’ at the mo just leads me to the same Bitcoin people we’ve heard a million time mes on podcasts etc. it doesn’t show anyone with other interests. Until then I think Global is necessary otherwise I’ll never find anything of interest.

You're correct but early days. Interesting things happening with music though, now and again anyway. I'm not here much myself due to reasons you outline but its a case of use it or lose it and we all need to contribute in our own way to ensure its success. Try getting a reaction to something like sailing- Its like examining your inner dialogue going over previous notes. Very little interaction/intrest outside of core topics. Persevere my friend
Yeah I’m going to stick around and see what happens. I already have a decent network on the Fediverse. Ditched bullshit social media back I. 2018. Not into feeding dystopia. The V4V stuff is interesting.

Myself, I've never really enjoyed Social Media full stop but I suppose it's become a necessary evil, especially for work- Mostly I leave feeling like I've escaped an elevator after somebody farted. Not like that here... yet.
Global was wild when I first got here and it made me nauseous, ngl. Only really use it now for #zapathon but I am glad #Amethyst has it as an option. I can browse with purpose and find an interesting person to follow, once in a blue moon. I guess my point is, have it somewhere as an option, but not what the user is greeted with to start? Idk, I'd hate to see it gone entirely. View quoted note →
I can relate. I used to think I needed SM for work but I quit and still have work. Given my tendency to shit post, I probably lost more work than I gained.
