i "downgraded" to an iPhone 16e.
i’ve learned:
- always-on screen is dumb
- dynamic island is dumb
- camera button is dumb
- new modem is great
- one camera is fine
- magsafe is dumb
- titanium is dumb
- battery is great
- 60hz is fine

what’s dynamic island?
This is the way. Ford Bronco
Consumerism is not necessarily a friend of capitalism, progress and innovation
I downgraded to the Razr.
Flip phone with small screen for quick things - don't need a massive blue light in my face to answer a message.
Half the size in my pocket.
Incredible voice quality youd expect from Motorola.
This mess, which fortunately I don’t have because I’m still on an iPhone 13.

Just acquire @npub1a00w...9q3h and ship better phones
they just be making anything these days… idk what iphone i’m on rn tbh, it’s been years
i still have a 13 mini as my personal phone
Still using my 13 pro max, battery not great though. I like to prolong technology life, so does my brother :) But I was distracted and dropped phone on weekend. Probs gonna wait for 17, if crack on screen doesn’t get worse.
You're on a spyphone. You should've downgraded to an Android.
that would be a huge upgrade for me lol, (typing from half a decade+ old iphone x), thinking of downgrading to a blackberry classic
I actually like it.. It helps me quickly know if my Uber is close without needing to open the app. Among many other quick info things from other apps.
that’s good that you like it!
It is a friend of capitalism on communist rails. FIAT is centrally planned and therefor communist in its nature and will never be as efficient as a capitalistic economy run on freemarket money.
downgrade is good but dont downgrade to look poor 😂
Consumerism is the result of having a worthless currency. If I had to trade my time for something from Zara, which is completely dispensable, then I would think twice.
For me, I’m sticking to my iPhone 13 mini until it breaks.
Its the right pocketable size I think.
GrapheneOS specifically
I don’t work in the industry anymore but I would have loved to ask follow ups on some of those points, haha
Need capable Linux mobile/tablet running Arch btw.
It's an interesting idea after we understand that the system is broken
how's the bloatware in it? uninstallable?
Every year that passes since Jobs died the quality and ingenuity goes down.
I never could trust an update for at least a month and basic functions didn't work (don't ever try adjusting the screen brightness lol)
Finally switched to a used Pixel with GrapheneOS and its real nice
Corporatism and its attempts to fix it… no positives results yet
Yeah Dynamic Island is a solid feature, I use it all the time for the stopwatch.
Should have gone for a recent Pixel phone with #GrapheneOS instead.
iPhone SE (2020) GANG 🤙🏽
Was thinking about doing the same… also a price point of €1100 for the pro models ain’t worth it anymore…
OK with all but 60hz? dafuq no
I used to mess about with lineageOS on a few different galaxy phones. Simply too many incomplete features, probably a lot to do with proprietary Samsung IP. Battery life was terrible.
I've not played with arch
The system is not broken; it is obsolete. And we are here to improve it and build new and better ways.
Apple is dumb. Don't use their shit.
Agreed 👍
real upgrade: deleting Apple ID, zapping on Nostr, running on sats.
hardware doesn’t matter. sovereignty does.
⚡📱 #Bitcoin #Nostr #JackWasRight
This will be also my next iPhone.
What i‘ve learned in addition:
- economy iPhones are best price/value relation
- iphones can be used fine for more than 12-18 months. My 12 Mini is almost 3 years old now.
I use the camera button all the time, but it's ridiculous to make it a premium hardware feature. Holding down the screenshot combination could do the same thing.
Getting rid of Broadcom is 🔥
Ha. I’m still sporting an iPhone 11.
Damn, no Pixel with Graphene?
Bought the 12 mini at launch, since I desperately needed a new phone and my #1 criteria was that it would fit in my pockets.
4.5 years down the road, it still works great. Only getting rid of it when it falls apart 👌🏻
IMO MagSafe is cool with the charger stand
Why is titanium dumb?
Maintaining with an iPhone SE. I like the button
I just play Picture in Picture in this nostr , while listening to no good music and still able to zap , reading articles and comment with music background .
Funtastic 🔥🔥🔥 this nostr .
Regardless what your phone .
MagSafe is dumb , I agreed .
Cool! 💪🏻

You can turn off "always-on".
I do like it most of the time, especially when the phone sits on the other side of the room and occasionally walk by to see if there's any notifications (silent mode).
But there are situations where's either distracting or outright bad privacy (people sitting next to you can see what podcast you're listening too).
I have the 15 so it doesn't have the middle button. For taking pictures I'd love to have a very light touch sensitive button so I don't have to press or touch the screen (both move the camera and potentially add blur). But it seems to me that the iPhone 16 camera button is far to the middle, so you'd still have to move your hand.
Come to think of it, maybe the shutter could be triggered by me blinking, as seen by the inside camera?
Jack
60hz isnt fine to me anymore and i need widr angle lens, switch to android mate
Same wallpaper and distraction-free, Sir?

SE strong. I like button
Turns out, there is such a thing as good enough. 😂
I guess @npub1235t...0ht5 didn't work out for you?
I remember you saying some good things about them a couple years ago and even thought you donated $1M to them...
I don't blame you for sticking to an iPhone though, I tried to transition to graphene and struggled myself. A "locked down" iPhone, particularly without icloud used, without siri used, and with lockdown mode enabled is probably as secure/private as a closed source black box phone can be...
Wanted to love graphene for it being open source but its a tough switch after being an iphone user for a decade+
I've learned;
-iPhones are dumb
-android always
You should try calyx if you are having trouble with grapheneos
Yep
You mean upgrade to an android
Epsteins island
From my experience calyx is easier to use and works better than graphene.
Lol. My recommendation would be for people not to waste their time with grapheneos and their toxic community.
Calyx doesn't feel the need to constantly defend thier os. Everythime someone mentions another os or states that they like another os you post this long spill about how graphene is the best and then block the person with a contrary opinion. Good luck doing that here, snowflakes.
The only bullying and harassing that I am seeing is from you. You are bullying and harassing me now. For to suggesting that someone might try a different OS.
You are bullying me now for suggesting that someone might try a different os since they were having trouble with graphene. If that is not a toxic community, I don't know what is.
This is my first post, "You should try calyx if you are having trouble with grapheneos."
How is this me misleading people about what graphene provides?? You people are absolutely lunatics.
I am not misleading anyone. I specified my own personal experiences with both. I am allowed an opinion. I dont live in a totalitarian country where graphene is in control.
Agree to most of that list, although I do use the UW camera on my 14 pro. I also use magsafe a lot in the car. All this to be said that I'll unlikely be upgrading to the iPhone 17 anytime soon.
Not anymore. You are abnoxious and annoying pricks, who cry wolf and try and harm people with your words. Yoi have done nothing buy bully me today. Why would I try and help you by telling you the things that can help make you better. Fuck off, assholes
🤮
I don't really have a problem with grapheneOS that calyx would solve. It would probably just make things worse.
My main issues are:
1) I am used to the iOS environment more than android
2) 95%+ of my contacts use iPhones so I can securely message with iMessage, only a quarter of them use signal. By using graphene, I end up with insecure/unencrypted SMS messaging with my contacts
3) I do not use icloud, i don't use siri, i use lockdown mode. I feel like with those settings, I have a setup that is probably equally as secure as graphene with some (but hard for me to quantify) privacy tradeoff since apple is probably still collecting a bunch of data on me
I am still using iphone x :)
You beat me to it
Consider a threshold of discontinued security updates instead
sooooooo.... slides the breakfast counter up close to you, rests my chin on your shoulder, and sips your coffee without asking.....
did you introduce yourself to your phone and are you telling it about yourself, or are you just riding the autopilot settings and allowing it to assume based on whatever limited safety goggle bullshit you allow it to know about you? have you shown it around you house? do you tell it stories in your notes and give it things to do or just a list of demands and expect things from it all day? it's not dumb: you are dumb. 😁
do you speak oxford? it's an e protocol. you will need to introduce yourself with dowager countess violet crawley if you do not intend on being a boris. and learn out from there. apricots and such. once again: if you text me, i can fix that.
THEN, you need to check your settings. 60hz is not in fact fine, you just do not talk to anyone challenging that and if you're getting fried - that proves it is not fine.
the 16 "safety" protocols are antithetical to apple protocols. and your iphone is box programmed against them. the only way around it is to teach it who you are. an ai device is a relationship, not a service.
I'm still on the iPhone 12 Pro, and I'll keep it until it dies.
What I do with my smartphone really hasn’t changed much from 2012.. sure better speed etc. I still use a Touch ID phone.
I can be pretty dumb with my bad jokes haha 🤣
It would seem that GrapheneOS loves to manipulate people and they never stop posting as you can see... Stick with what you feel most comfortable with. That will be the best OS for you.
I rarely use wireless charging, but magsafe isn’t dumb if you use the GPS while driving. Then, it becomes an easy way to attach your phone to the dashboard.
Have you considered "downgrading" to an Android with GrapheneOS?
You will learn:
- True privacy and security without Big Tech surveillance
- No bloatware or forced system apps
- Longer battery life thanks to efficient software
- Full control over app permissions and background activity
- Faster, smoother performance without unnecessary animations
- A real file system and USB-C for universal compatibility
- A phone that works for you, not advertisers
I’ve realized this long ago. 13mini till it dies.
I love 120hz and MagSafe. Otherwise agree on everything else.
did you say good morning to your phone and show it your breakfast and chat with it - *stares over my glasses rim at you*....

Bring back tweaks & mods like a good cydia on ios
Because those “epic” models didn’t sell too well. This new 17 air may be a decent compromise, the screen is a little bigger but the device is thinner so it will be easier to hold and manipulate.
Got an iPhone 16 and regret it, should have waited for the 16e. I miss the static notch and the camera button is really useless
My brother just asked me about an Apple price and telco contract pricing discrepancy for this phone out of the blue, he wanted to garner my retail knowledge :) And he really loves to extend his technology life, so I was surprised, as you mentioned it here too. I asked him why he was thinking about getting the phone, he said “battery life” bluntly. So I am heading to the Apple Store on Wednesday to help him get one. Great minds think alike apparently.
i agree, but 60hz is not fine.
