How confident are you that beliefs precede emotions? I would counter that beliefs are based on remembered experiences, and that memory is largely emotional responses. Emotion informs our sensory sysyems as well, further impacting our memories and thus our beliefs.

100% certain. You can't have an emotion unless you first have a belief/definition. I've played with my beliefs extensively over last 20 years. I've thrown everything out & started again. I've searched for existing unconscious beliefs that seem to be at odds with my conscious ones. I've played with new beliefs & adopted only those that served me, to later tweak them or drop them again entirely. It's not something I'd advise everyone to start just messing with. It's definitely playing with fire. I've questioned my sanity many times & even spent time in a psych unit. Your beliefs are so so important to your existence in this crazy world. The controllers don't like it when you start questioning the nature of things. In terms of timing, look at your hands & clap once. Did you think you saw your hands clap in real time? It's all a memory of something you sensed moments ago. Your brain is only just perceiving those signals as a clap. From your eyes sensing the light & your ears sensing the vibration to your hands sensing the clap itself. All of it takes time to go to your brain & then unjumble it into a sensation that you can experience. It all happened in the past but your mind made it feel like you witnessed it in real time. It was all just a memory.
