Well I look forward! In terms of privacy preserving recording setup, we could really need some testing in dynebolic. It doesn't come with much virtual synths, but the ardour packed in there will do the trick for gear. And it won't connect anywhere unless you give explicit consent. You'd need a USB compliant sound interface though...
Ahh I remember seeing these folks a while back, they had some mad sound system vibe for their Linux distro but when I was setting up my laptop I couldn’t remember who they were.
Nice, have you used it? That’s very clever if you’re able to build tracks with the os on a usb. I take it audio would be handled by the host machine still?
Yes! I am testing it regularly too. Dynebolic (and rastasoft.org) is what got me into GNU+Linux in the early 00s. Nowadays I'm deeply involved in the non-profit foundation behind it: Dyne.org, and thus by extension the development of dynebolic. So, I am likely biased. 😅 It will maybe not appeal to those who like to be on the bleeding edge of soft- and hardware. But its a powerful tool with a strong focus on privacy, lightweight logistics and durability.
No?!? I need to revisit. I ended up putting Ubuntu Studio on my daily driver (rarely use for audio, still very tied to Mac OS there unfortunately) but I loved the whole vibe they were coming with. I may well try at some point, still got quite a few tasks to get through for my next release, although finally solved the RSS issue I was having so I can safely move to my next tech drama lol.
Ubuntu Studio is a great gateway to the heavy stuff! You should have a look at the LSP suit of plugins some time. Pretty sure they're included in US. With your skills and their quality, I can barely imagine where that sound would be going! And if (let's face it: WHEN) you pull that off, you won't only be creating precedents, you'll be free from the Mac rent!
