Wouldn’t the conductive spire eventually reach an electrostatic equilibrium with the aether? If not why not? By what mechanism does the spire ‘collecting’ the electrical charge cause the mercury to start spinning? How was the electricity generated from the spinning mercury? If the spire is ‘collecting’ electrostatic energy why convert that into spinning mercury then back to electricity?
