Hanging out at makerspaces, coffee shops that are actually interesting, hacker meetings, luddite groups, and do forth.
But the limitation of only being able to connect with people who are geographically nearby is a drag. For public online chatter: Mastodon/Fediverse/ActivityPub seems to be pretty good. Not perfect, but nothing is.
My part of the change is to focus on to places where I'm happier. It's self interest. But if people want to draw a bigger picture out of it, they could say it's starving the echo chamber of attention, one person at a time. Conversely, one could also say it's strengthing the echo chamber to weed out those who aren't participating. 🤷♂️
