What would be the perfect desktop RSS application?
I've recently gotten back into one of my projects where I'm trying to build an #RSS reader with Rust & Iced
Things are coming together nicely since that last post...
- Items are now properly stored in a DB and actually retrieved for display
- I've written a module that parses description/content areas to build the layout (this was HARD!)
- It seems to work well with many feeds I'm testing out.
I really just need to get to the grind of completing it and adding the necessary features. But I'd love feedback from fellow open web enjoyers.
If you have any thoughts on must-have features I'd love to hear them.
My current dream list is:
- First-class #Tor & #I2P support with other options configurable (**I would really like suggestions on how to handle this well)
- Full text search (to be useful as a personal search engine)
- Import from FreshRSS (for entirely selfish reasons)
- Discovery features: the plan is to setup a way to discover feeds that your feeds link to.

While I have no suggestions for additional features, I like the sound of this project.
Multi-select for marking read, unread, or to delete.
Metadata export and import, much like you can do with Newpipe to instantly move all your data to a new instance.
Tor support but not enabled by default. I don't need tor for rss (yet) and don't want my rss app having to double tunnel (as I run a VPN 24/7).
Media-less option selectable by individual feed. You can be tracked by autoloading media at times.
Simplified viewing option.
Assignable hot keys for user selected options.
What would you want?

Oh, and pie-in-the-sky: nostr relay list and metadata backup to be able to restore your feed via personal relay on any device automagically.
Perhaps an aside but a way to automate paywalled to archive bypass. Eg financial times
No idea if possible but thought I'd throw that in there
I had a Windows app named Desktop Reader which I could drag anywhere and it scrolled the feeds.
Also There was a website (I forget the name) that allowed you to turn any news site into an RSS feed, whether they were configured for it or not.
Pretty cool I thought as there are a lot of sites that post articles but do not have a feed.
