Because it is beautiful, and some respond to beauty. Steve Jobs saw some calligraphy in college snd thought how cool it would be to have it produced from a computer instead of hand-drawn, thus the chain-reaction of creativity and innovation begins. Just my thoughts (I am/was a professionally trained calligrapher).

I thought they were asking about learning handwriting, which is a basic skill, not calligraphy, which is art.
Cursive is also easier to write, especially for kids still developing their fine motor skills. My daughter is learning both. Also if you don't write cursive you're probably going to struggle to read it when you run into it in the wild.

When I was in grade school I learned cursive when learning to write. Now a days my writing is like a weird hybrid. I think they still teach it in school.
They do not teach cursive in many schools anymore
They do in some private schools. Signature still matter in some places.
