I'm afraid that you are right. People are incredible lazy, and for most people it is - unfortunate - much more convenient to just get verified and, later on, to start using a CBDC than to actually do what many of them would think of as best practice.
I confess to be guilty of this with regard to purchasing btc, exchanges are just so much more convenient than no-kyc services...

Being against something doesn't mean that we act consequently if it belongs to our benefit or convenience. (including me) That's what I am recognising since 40 years (I'm 62). It happens every day in our life. Buying cheap shirts, knowing it's made from children, buying chocolate, knowing the cacao beens are harvested from children slaves, buying IPhones and EVs, knowing the battery components are diggered out under unhuman conditions, buying cheap gas, knowing about the wars with hundreds of thousands of so called colleteral damages and so on and so on. Living in a "developed country" always means you are living on others costs. The way to reduce it, is to reduce your way of life. Being conscious and decide how far you wanna go for it. It's always your decision allone.

I regret that I subscribed for the blue check. I applied for the legacy checkmark after the Oslo FF 2022, that was before the whole Elon mess started. I thought it’s good to have it for my work in Africa so that people see, I’m not a scammer. I didn’t anticipate that Twitter would turn out to try to become a financial network. 😳😣
I mean the check is actually a fraud now. It doesn’t even protect one from impersonators, which was the reason why I subscribed.

Identity verification is like a stamp of approval for one’s own ego. Ego is necessary when you know that you are hollow from inside and you want to protect that you don’t have. When you feel that you are somebody before others, identity verification fulfils it’s purpose. Satoshi discarded identity to protect that which he created. If you are truly creative, your identity shouldn’t be relevant at all. Humans need to learn it from great masters and spiritual guides. Not from professional institutions and field experts.

Learning about Bitcoin *properly at the deepest levels has little to do with the actual Bitcoin protocol... IMO.

Possible future scenario:
Think back to start of Covid lockdowns and then when the decision was made to send out checks. Governments are so inefficient and slow.
Next time around the States could “partner” with Elon. And even other tech companies that want in on the action.
